About Yugal

Yugal is a studio in Dehradun, India, that turns a photograph of a couple into a portrait in the manner of a great painting tradition, printed on a 20 × 30 inch gallery-wrapped canvas for ₹3,499. You see the portrait free before you pay, a person checks every print file, and nothing is printed until you approve it.

Yugal means a pair. We make one thing: a portrait of two people.

Why a portrait

For centuries a painted portrait was how a family said: these two matter, remember them. Most Indian homes have a wedding album in a cupboard and nothing of the couple on the wall. Yugal is a way to put them there, and to give that to the people you love.

How it is made

You send a photograph. We compose the portrait in the tradition you choose, from Raja Ravi Varma to the Mughal court to the Dutch Golden Age, and you see it free before you pay. After you order, you can ask for up to two revisions. Nothing is printed until you approve it. Every print file is checked by a person before it goes to the printer.

What it is, honestly

A Yugal portrait is made with AI-assisted tools from your photograph and checked by a person. It is a new work in the manner of a historical tradition. It is not a hand painting, and we will never tell you it is.
